Illustration – drawings for books, magazines, and promotional products. Brands often need characters to illustrate it, or diagrams to show how their business works. To draw these, companies hire illustrators. Each illustrator has a different style – some draw cute illustrations with kind characters. Others are something cartoonish or brutal. Illustrators either work for large agencies with 50 or more employees or work as freelancers.
The process of creating an illustration
When you decide between custom and stock illustrations, we suggest you take a closer look at the process of their creation: the workflow, what applications are used and sketches. The first thing is the workflow, and everything else is afterwards.
- Simple little sketches with sketches.
- Approval of the idea.
- Drawing a worked out sketch.
- Approval.
- Moving into the digital environment.
- Next we make a clean digital version.
- Further improvement of the illustration (noise, shades, effects).
Sketching takes from half an hour, depending on the complexity of the work and the size of the desired illustration. And then there’s no limit to perfection.
How many illustration programs there are, I think only Google knows. We use only three applications: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Affinity. The first two are already quite popular, but the last one is their competitor, since it combines the representatives of Adobe in one application. We choose the application based on the illustration we want to make.
